Mile One Market: Lack Of Facilities DelayTraders Relocation
The lack of water, electricity supply and safety facilities have been identified as a major set back affecting the relocation of traders to the newly completed Rumuwoji Mile One Market.
Some of the traders who benefited from the stalls allocation lamented that vital facilities that is required in a modern and newly built market, like water, power supply and safety gadgets are not visibly there.
Speaking with The Tide, the former chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Mile One Market Traders Association (MOMTA), Mr Daniel Iheme, said that it will be difficult for traders to move into the newly completed market electricity, water and fire fighting equipment.
According to Mr Iheme “what had brought the market to this condition was the fire outbreak, and I wonder why government after building the market would want traders to go back for business without installing fire extinguishers and other safety devices in the market.
Apart from safety, the former chairman explained that many traders who had paid for stalls at the ground floor were given allocations at the top floor, adding that it was for that reason that they are making their case to the state assembly.
Also speaking no the matter, a trader in the market believed to be one of the executive of MOMTA, Chief Wilfred Nta, said it will be difficult for trades to cope without the necessary facilities like water and electrify.
He said the toilet system can not work without water, adding that the provision of these facilities need to be considered before traders would be asked to relocate.
