Ikuru Tasks School Proprietors On Excellence

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru has charged all stakeholders who are involved in child development in the country to strive towards achieving academic excellence.

Engr. Ikuru gave this charge last week during the Speech/Prize Giving Day of the Broombreed Primary and Secondary Schools, Port Harcourt.

The State Deputy Governor stated that the students who have passed through academic institutions with high quality would be in a better position to manage well the nation’s abundant resources in the future.

He called on investors in the educational sector to emulate the Proprietress of Broombreed School, Mrs Funke Sunmonu for investing on the establishment of a world-class educational institution.

Describing education as the bedrock of development, Engr. Ikuru noted, “for every society that must develop, education must be its foundation”, advising teachers to pay great attention to the vision of the school investors as character moulders in order to ensure that the products of their schools become responsible in the future.

In a lecture tilted: “Imbibing Lasting Values for the Future”, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Paul Ako, underscored the need for man to live for something other than himself, stating that a man should live for ideals outside of himself including faith on his country, friends, less privileged and immediate community.

Mr. Ako, who is also a staff of Stanbic IBTC advised the students to be diligent and hardworking, adding that good things only happened through these virtues.

Earlier, the Proprietress of the school, Mrs Funke Sunmonu, noted that the occasion was to mark the end of the school year in its new site, thanking God for helping her to build, “new workforce, new relationship with new parents, excellent academic progress and conducive learning environment”, adding that they have now set up modern laboratories and other academic infrastructure that would make teaching and learning fruitful ventures.

She thanked the Rivers State Government for supporting the school and providing an enabling environment for their operation.
