Gunmen Kill Traffic Warden, LandLord In Yenagoa
Two persons, including a police traffic warden, were on Monday killed by unknown gunmen in Akenfa, a suburb in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.
The incident occurred in Ken Kaiama Street, where the landlord of the building where the shooting took place was killed last Monday.
It was learnt that the gunmen suspected to be cultists had gone to the building to search for a member of rival cult group shot indiscriminately when they could not find their target.
The victims were said to have been killed when they came out to find out what was amiss following the sporadic shooting.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Musa, confirmed the incident and told newsmen that the traffic warden, a constable, was mistaken for the landlord whom the gunmen also sought.
Musa said that it was after the constable had been killed that the assailants located the landlord who was also shot in a bush at Akenfa.
The police commissioner expressed concern over the recent upsurge in cult related killings in Yenagoa and its environs.
According to him, the Monday morning casualty brings to seven the number of people killed through cult related shootings within the last two weeks in Bayelsa.
