Group Urges Govs To Invest In Health Workers
A Non-Governmental organization (NGO) know as the White Ribbon Alliance has called on the state government to inrest in health works.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Tonte Ibraye who made the call in a statement in Port Harcourt said that investing more in the health sector particularly health workers would go along way to save the life of mothers and children who are vulnerable to illnesses.
Desribing health workers as the backbone for effective healthcare delivery system, Mr Ibraye noted that millions of mothers and children lacked access to diagnosis, treatment of illness, immunization at birth and called for preventive measures.
According to him, the United Nations reports indicated that a gap of more than 3.5 million health workers exist in the country and suggested the need for one million health workers and 350,000 midwives to engaged to close the existing gap in the sector.
The statement further said that the group was determined to help the state government inspire action on engagement of health workers that would support the governors to save lives of their citizens.
