Group Seeks Collective Support To End Malaria Scourge
A non-governmental Organisation in Niger Delta known as Canaan Peace Women and Community Development Initiative (CPWCDI) has stressed the need for corporate organisations and individuals to cooperate in the fight against the deadly scourge of malaria in Rivers State.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Ambassador Mrs. Christy Iwezor, said this during malaria control seminar organised by the Canaan Peace, Women and Community Development Initiative in partnership with Association of Civil Society Organisation in Malaria Control, Immunization and nutrition (ACOMIN) and Society for Family Health at Umuanyagu community in Etche local government area, Rivers State.
Mrs. Iwezor, who described malaria as a disease without borders, said that it has caused untold hardship to several communities across the state.
She stressed the need for regular usage of the mosquito treated nets, ensure regular sanitation in the surroundings with a view to destroying mosquitoes breeding sites, while plantains and bananas should be planted far from residential buildings.
Mrs. Izezor stressed the need to assist the organisation by not only imbibing the message, but passed it across to their neighbours.
“It will be a great pleasure for us to pass on this message across to our households and neighbours in order to be able to imbibe these personal protective measures, promoting environmental management/sanitation, in good sanitary habit and clean environment for a healthy malaria free society”, she said.
The Ochimba I of Umuanyagu, Chief G.O. Amadi thanked the group for the seminar and stressed the need for the people to imbibe the message of the seminar.
In his speech, the malaria focal person in Etche Local Government Area, Mr. Titus Nwaeke, stressed the need for proper usage of the malaria nets.
