Group Canvasses For Imoke’s Return
The Ikom caucus of the PDP in Cross River has pledged support for the second term bid of Governor Liyel Imoke in the April 2012 governorship election in the state.
The leader of the caucus, Mr Bassey Okim, announced the pledge during an interactive session with newsmen in Calabar.
Okim, accompanied by some members of the caucus, including Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba, said Imoke had performed creditably well to deserve a second tenure.
“We, the Ikom caucus of the PDP, express our solidarity with the administration of Sen. Liyel Imoke.
“We also endorse him as the sole candidate of the party for the Cross River governorship race in 2012.’’
He explained that the endorsement was based on Imoke’s people oriented policies and programmes.
“This endorsement is based on our conviction that he is the authentic architect of the Cross River vision.
“He is also an effective and humane leader who has distinguished himself as a great manager of men and friend of the rural folks.”
Okim stressed that the caucus did not recognise any other candidate for the PDP during the April 2012 elections.
“I, therefore, urge party faithfuls in Ikom Local Government Area to disregard any other purported candidate and rally round the governor.”
In his comments, Ndoma-Egba said he supported the caucus and also endorsed whatever decision they had taken on Imoke.
