Governor  Martin Elechi of Ebonyi has sacked the Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Hyacinth Oteh, replacing him with a newly-appointed Permanent Secretary, Mr Godwin Mbam.

Elechi made the announcement when he swore-in 18 permanent secretaries and inaugurated eight board members for the state’s broadcasting station.

He urged the permanent secretaries to engender efficiency and effectiveness in the state’s civil service.

Elechi reminded them that their appointments were based on territorial spread, personal merit and ability to perform.

According to him, the permanent secretaries and other principal officers of the ministries will be subjected to regular capacity training and retraining programmes to improve the state’s civil service. “The existing 31 permanent secretaries and 14 ministries are not the best but necessary to enthrone proficiency and discipline in the state’s civil service”.

“But with time the number will be pruned down. Your watch-word, therefore, should be efficiency as government would subject you to regular training and retraining programmes on leadership and human management”.

“You should plug all loopholes of financial embezzlements and unnecessary expenditures,” he stated.

The governor told the permanent secretaries to accept challenges as they came and to be responsible for their inadequacies.

Elechi told the board of the state’s broadcasting outfit, to ensure discipline, regular training of staff, operate within the law establishing the station and make it financially viable.

Mbam, the new chief of staff, commended the government for finding them worthy to serve the state, adding that he would improve on what his predecessor started.
