Delta Bans Indiscriminate Disposal Of Wastes
As part of measures to keep Delta State clean, the Delta State government will soon come out with laws preventing people from littering wastes on the roads, streets, market places and offices, especially waste from package water both sachets and cans.
The executive chairman of Delta State Waste Management Board, Olori Magege, who disclosed this last week in one of his official outings to eradicate waste in Warri, hinted that henceforth, anyone seen throwing away wastes on unauthorised places would be arrested by members of the environmental Sanitation Brigade and handed over to Police of health officers in the state for prosecution.
Olori Magege warned seriously against any attempt by the Sanitation officials, to collect bribe from offenders, emphasising that such an accomplice would not only be shown his way out of job, but would surely face prosecution.
He further disclosed that about one hundred and twenty persons were arrested and tried by Mobile Sanitation Courts especially in Asaba, where he personally monitored Ughelli, Warri, Agbor, Sapele, Abraka, Kwale and other parts of Delta State.
In another occasion, the Director of Personnel Management (DPM), Emmanuel Erhisere, has told newsmen in Ughelli that over 8 (eight) people were arrested and tried by the Environmental Sanitation Mobile Force and were convicted for sanitation offences to serve as a deterrent to others.
It will be recalled that past efforts at sanitatising the state has not been well appreciated by the citizenry hence nothing would be better than the institution of a law to check this ugly menace.
