Council Task OPS On Youths Empowerment Schemes
The Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Rivers State Hon. Chimbiko Akaralo has challenged privileged individuals and organized private sector to redouble their efforts in assisting youths acquire of living skills that would enhance their standard.
Hon. Akaralo gave the advice in at the 14th graduation ceremony of Ton. Community Development Foundation, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The mayor who was the guest of honour at the ceremony said government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of providing employment opportunities to the youths in the society and stressed the need for collaboration with public spirited individuals and organizations in the fight against poverty by assisting youths acquire training on skills and become self employed.
Hon. Akaralo who was represented by the Council Chief Protocol Officer, Hon Emmanuel Owhorodu said he was impressed at the effort made by the foundation towards impacting positively on the lives of the 300 graudands who benefited in the programme and urged others to emulate the foundation.
He said that the council’s Skills Acquisition programme was aimed at training youths on various skills and reiterated the council’s readiness to partner with any organization and urged them to remain committed to the experience so as to start up their own business development.
About 300 youths who successfully completed the programme where awarded certificates.
Executive Director of the foundation Elder Nekabari Nwikoobee disclosed that over 1000 students started the programme but only serious minded ones graduated.
