No fewer than 100 persons have been admitted at the Potiskum General Hospital and other clinics in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, due to a sudden outbreak of cholera.

Authorities at the General Hospital and the clinics declined to speak with our correspondent in Potiskum on the ground that they were not competent to speak on the outbreak of cholera without taking permission from relevant authorities.

However, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Mrs Fatsuma Talba, had confirmed the outbreak of the disease in four Local Governments Areas of the state but she made no mention of the number of death.

The Commissioner told newsmen in Potiskum that the affected Local Government Areas were Potiskum, Fika, Gulani and Gujba.

According to her, the outbreak occurred between Monday and Tuesday last week, but the report only reached the ministry on Friday without necessary details.

Talba said that although there was an indication that the outbreak might not actually be cholera but gastro-enteritis, adding that soon the picture would become clearer.
