As Women belonging to different groups in Nigeria, especially in the South East geo-political zone commence this year’s Annual August General Meeting to discuss issues affecting women both home and abroad, the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Clara C. Chime has charged them to use the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the Church and their  communities.

Mrs. Chime who  gave the charge during the State Monthly Women Prayer Network for the month of August  at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, described August Meeting as a season of collective efforts, participation and positive contribution by women towards sustainable community development.

Represented on the occasion by the wife of the Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. Adaobi Odoh, Mrs. Chime expressed delight over the large turn out of women.

In her opening remark, the wife of the chairman of Oji River Local Government of the state, Mrs. Njideka Onuzulike,  appealed to  women to always pray for peace to reign in their various families, adding that  peaceful families  give birth to a peaceful society.

She also called on women to always pray for wisdom upon those   in leadership positions at all levels of government in the country, adding that the importance of prayers in the lives of Christians cannot be over-emphasized.

A Guest Minister at the occasion, Rev. Fr. Chidi Nwogu, who spoke on the theme “The Role of Holy Spirit in Witnessing to Man”,  explained that the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity “has a place in the political, education, emotional, physical and societal drama of our lives”.

Rev Nwogu regretted that so many people “are walking in the energy of the flesh in search of money and materialism instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to guide their steps”, adding that many people no longer recognize the place of the Holy Spirit in piloting the affairs of their  life.

He also enjoined  women to shun hypocritical life styles, which  according to him, involve gossiping, jealousy, greed, anger and malice, advising them  to make peace with all  and conduct their affairs with the fear of God.

In a vote of thanks, the Catholic Women Organization President, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Agu, commended the women for coming out en-mass and advised them to put all they have heard during the prayer meeting into practice.

The programme was attended by many men and women of God, women leaders, among whom were Rev Sam Inyiogwe, Rev Ann Anyanwu, PDP women leader, Mrs. Oby Nwofor, among others.
