The Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi has urged contractors handling various government projects to exhibit high level of diligence in delivering quality jobs, and warned that his administration would not condone mediocrity.

He handed down the warning during an unscheduled visit to some ongoing projects last Tuesday at Omerulu in Ikwerre Local Government.

The Rivers State chief executive, while inspecting the Elele Omerulu Road, told those overseeing the project that quality job delivery is a major goal of his administration and frowned at some parts of the four-lane inter state highway for failing to meet standards.

He insisted that the topping of the ashpalt should be tickened and the width of the road expanded to reduce flooding.

Governor Amaechi re-echoed the same warning, Wednesday at the Model Secondary School, Ebubu, Eleme, when, he led members of the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) on a project tour in the state.

He said that since the projects cost the state fortunes contractor must ensure that they are of quality that will last the test of time.

Meanwhile, Governor Amaechi has disclosed plans to ensure that electricity generation is de-monopolised.

Intimating NBA members of the difficulties his administration was facing to generate and distribute power, Amaechi declared, “I am going to lobby that power  be moved to the concurrent list”.

The governor insisted that though the Federal Government was comfortable regulating power distribution, it placed the state at a disadvantaged position because of huge power it generates but could not distribute.

He told the Bar members to collaborate in fighting for the practise of true federalism in the country adding that the state has been forced to shut down its two gas turbine power generators due to wastage.
