Amaechi Restates Commitment To Quality Education
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, says improvement of education is a top priority of his administration in the state.
He disclosed this during the foundation-stone laying of Jesuit Memorial College Mbodo, Aluu in Ikwerre local government area of the state.
Governor Amaechi said, efforts were on to provide quality teachers so that students of the state would compete favourably with their counterparts in other parts of the world.
“I think that government is trying to make sure that the quality of education in Rivers State is improved. We are making efforts to ensure that we have quality teachers for our children so that they can compete favourably with the rest of the world”, he said.
Amaechi said, in the recent past, Port Harcourt was known to be backward in education noting that the sector had since been transformed since he took office as governor.
He appealed to parents who lost their children in the Sosoliso plane crash in 2005 to see the incident as a sacrifice to the nation. “For those of you who lost your children you must see them as sacrificial lambs because if they didn’t lie we probably would not have heard this college here. If they didn’t die the quality of education in Rivers State may probably remain as it was,
“I am not sure our parents wanted to send their children to school in Abuja, it was because the quality of education was going down by the day and they wanted the best for them”.
