The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) on Monday said that the best five players from this year’s Akpabio International Classic would represent Nigeria at the World Scrabble Championship in Warsaw, Poland.

NSF Chief Coach Victor Owukere told newsmen  in Lagos that this was because the classic was of the same importance with the World Scrabble Championship involving top athletes.

This year’s Akpabio’s Scrabble Classic will hold from September 8 to September 11 in Uyo.

Owukere said that five players and one stand by player had been selected for the world championship.

“The federation decided that players who will participate in the Akpabio Classic represent the country in the world championship.

“The best six ranked players in the sport after the Akpabio competition will be chosen to play for the country at the world tournament so that they can match their counterparts from other part of the world.

“Top ranked players like Pakorn Nemitramansuk from Thailand, the current world champion, will be there,’’ he said.

The national coach said five of the players who would use the classic as a trial were Moses Peter, Etim Nsikan, Dokun Esan, Moshood Sani and Oshodi Sunday.
