AAG: NTF Tasks Nigerian Taekwondists On Performance
Jonathan Nnaji, President, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), has said that the country’s taekwondoists had no reason not to perform well at the 10th All Africa Games in Mozambique in September.
Nnaji spoke with newsmen in Lagos against the backdrop of the modern equipment procured for the athletes by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
He said that the taekwondoists, in camp in Abuja, were excited when on Wednesday he delivered the equipment to them for their training.
Nnaji said the federation had been in dire need of equipment which, he said, would enhance their performance, especially with modern techniques of scoring points.
“We have intensified the athletes’ training and they are improving day by day, I am sure we will have a good outing.
“With the equipment, we have no option but to do the country proud because one good turn deserves another,’’ he said and commended the NSC for the gesture.
In his comments, NTF national coach Osita Egwim said that the 16 taekwondoists, eight males and eight females, in camp were doing well.
Egwim, however, said that their participation in the Games depended on if the NSC could sponsor all of them.
“A total of 16 athletes will represent the country at the Games if the ministry can afford to sponsor all of them,’’ he said, and commended the NSC for the modern equipment.
