Wrestling, Our Birthright, Bayelsa Boasts
The Bayelsa State Wrestling association has said that Bayelsa State will continue to remain the best in wrestling in every sport festival, “because we see it as a birth right to be the best”.
The Secretary of the Association, Mr Diri Ebikeme said this in an interview at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt yesterday.
Mr Ebikeme said that Bayelsa wrestlers have shown in their outing in the on-going event that the state will surpass its performance in Kaduna in 2009.
“Bayelsa wrestlers are going to do well. We have been doing it. In KADA games we got 8 gold medals and 5 silver, this time around we are still hopeful that with God on our side, we are going to be the best”, he said.
The wrestling association secretary who attributed its state success in the sport to hard work, said that the interview should serve as a warning to states such as Rivers and Delta, that they are not ready to relinquish their enviable position as far as wrestling is concerned.
“The signs are already there, that the gold medals are coming. So if Rivers and Delta States want to try, well, we still believe that with God on our side, we shall emerge the best”, he said.
His view was corroborated by a Bayelsa wrestler Orukari Ziwanomo who said that Bayelsa wrestlers are in for business at the Garden City Games.
“What I want to say is that there is nothing you as a man want to do, with God on your side, that you cannot do, so we believe that we are going to do our best with God on our side, we will do better than what we did in the last festival in Kaduna”, he said.
