The Sports Directors of Katsina, Anambra and Bayelsa States have said that their teams are in high spirit for the on-going National Sports Festival, tagged “Garden City Games  2011” and they’re in Port Harcourt to win the covet gold medals and top the medals chart.

The Sports Directors, Mallam K. Saro Mohammed for Katsina, C.C. Anuzie (Anambra) and Jackson Bidei (Bayelsa) at separate interviews also applauded the state-of-the-art facilities at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, venue of most of the activities.

According to Mallam Mohammed, the Katsina State contingent – ‘Team Katsina’ trained and re-trained for the games and had been in camp since last year when the games was first scheduled to hold and are therefore ready to spring surprises at the games by winning a lot of gold medals.

Mallam Mohammed said he was one of the sports delegates from across the country that embarked on an inspection of facilities in the Garden City last year to ascertain the level of preparation for the games, stressing that, “we inspected some of the facilities at the time; the state government has done a very good job and a lot of people here in Rivers state will benefit.

Mr Anuzie said” ‘Team Anambara is at the games to top the medal chart because the Anambra State contingent prepared very well for the games and were in camp for a long time.

“The repeated postponement of the 17th National Sports Festival has afforded us the opportunity to remain in camp for a long time – training and retraining. So we are ready for the games as you can see and we hope to top the medals table”.

He continued: The Rivers State Government really made a lot of effort to see that the facilities for the festival are all on ground… Kaduna State set a standard (with the hosting of the 16th National Sports Festival) and is proper that Rivers State tried to beat that standard or at least meet up with the standard because the standard of facilities in Kaduna was very impressive and think Rivers saw that as a challenge in coming up with this ultra modem sports complex. Really Rivers State has impressed on Nigerians and the states participating in the games that, it is really capable of hosting the games”.
