Unity Road: Amaechi Thumbs Down Pace Of Work

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed displeasure with the pace of work on the Ogoni/Andoni/Opobo Unity Road.

Governor Amaechi, who spoke through his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, during an unscheduled inspection tour of the Andoni and Opobo axis of the project, expressed regret that the contractor, Rivigo JV, after being financially mobilized up to date, has not been committed to the terms of the contract.

He warned the company to return to site and expedite action on the project or risk sanction from the government, promising Rivers people that his administration would do everything possible to enable the people of Andoni and Opobo communities to drive through the road to their homes in the shortest possible time.

Responding, the Site Manager of Rivigo JV, Mr. Leyira Kamanu, pledged to expedite action on the job in order to make the road utilizable for commuters by August. He blamed the deplorable environment and the weather for the slow pace of work on the project.

According to him, “bridge 8 on the Andoni axis would be ready by next month,” adding that “the people of Opobo would drive home by the end of July this year.”
