Team Rivers Dominates Weight Lifting Event

Team Rivers yesterday won three gold medals in weight lifting 75kg class event to consolidate on their vision to host and win the on-going 17th Natonal Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.

About 11 states participated in the 75kg class event at the Township School venue yesterday. Gloria Moses won 3 gold medals to increase her medal haul to nine after winning five gold and four silver earlier at the Garden City Games.

Meanwhile, the male 77kg class event was shifted to today at the same venue.

Head coach of Rivers state Weight lifting Association, Aduche Ojadi said that there was hope for more medals, saying that expectations were high as Emmanuel Eric will participate in the 77kg weight category.

“I am very sure that Eric will give Team Rivers at least one gold in today’s event,” he assured. The medalists yesterday include Rose Daniels, Gloria Moses and Carol Okougha in the 48kg and 75kg class and 58kg respectively. Rose Daniels won two gold and silver, Carol Okougha won three silver while Gloria Moses won three gold medals.
