SWAN Commends Gov Amaechi

Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), have commended Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers for giving them accommodation at the on-going National Sports Festival.

The Rivers state chairman of the association,Mr. Honour Sirawoo told reporters that the Governor’s decision to give national and state officers of the association accommodation was a step in the right direction.

‘’ This gesture is indeed unprecendented in the history of the National Sports Festival. I believe it is the first time sports writers ,national and state executive officials have been given accommodation in such a national event.’’ He said.

Sirawoo said sports writers covering the games would be motivated to put in their best and ensure that the events were well covered having been given a sense of belonging.

He also urged the sportswriters to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture by ensuring that all events were adequately covered and presented to the people.

‘’ The sports writers are the people to give the people detailed account of the National Sports Festival. I believe we are equal to the task and we can live up to that expectation,’’ he said.

The chairman commended Gov. Amaechi for giving sports a big boost in the state.

‘’ The governor has built a big sports complex in the state and it is one of the best in the country. We believe it will host future national and international sports events in the country.

‘’ Also, Rivers youths are bound to benefit from the various facilities at the centre because they will use it to showcase their talents.

‘’ Sports writers will assist expose such hidden talents to the respective national and international bodies for grooming and harnessing,’’ he said.
