The Super Falcons of Nigeria last night put up the fight of their lives at the women’s World Cup against hosts and defending champions, Germany but still lost 1-0 to end their hopes of progressing in the women’s Mundial for the sixth consecutive times.

After losing their opening match by the same margin to France, the Uche Eucharia tutored  lasses were condemned to getting a result against Germany, the overwhelming favourites in the clash, to have any kind of chance of remaining alive in the competition.

However, despite a gallant performance under lined by robust play, and desperate defending, the Falcons were undone by a 54th minute goal, off a rebounded freekick.

Considering that the same German team had landed the Falcons an 8-0 pounding in a friendly earlier in the year, many expected an overwhelming victory by the Germans again.

But the Germans rather got a tough time trying to beat the Falcons, who were let down by poor attacking potency and misplaced passes.

Now, Nigeria ladies must pick themselves up to face Canada, 04 losers to France in a ceremonial final group match on Tuesday, even if to try to end their winless streak at the world stage.
