RSSRC Debunks Allegation Of Favouritism

The Rivers State Social Rehabilitation Committee (RSSRC) says its policies and programmes were not designed to favour some ethnic groups in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Committee, Miss Sharon Amgbari who said this in an interview with newsmen in her office also described as false claims by 51 youths of Ogoni extraction who claimed to be graduands of the Social Development Institute (SDI) Okehi, headquarter of Etche LGA that they were singled out for non payment of some money.

Miss Amgbari who spoke on behalf of the chairman of the committee Chief A.K. Horsefall said that non of such persons were passed through the institute with unsatisfied claims.

She said that the allegations were looked up by some faceless persons to not only discredit the committee but to extort money from it.

She also said that the institute presently runs 13 courses which includes, crane operation, arts, electrical/electronics, agriculture and welding fabrication.

Others include pipe fitting, computer/ICT, carpentry, fashion design/hair dressing, driving, scaffolding, and catering amongst others.

She further explained that the courses are taught by experienced professionals after which a test expected to be conducted by the Ministry of Labour and successful ones are awarded a Trade Test Grade ll certificate.

Miss Amgbari said that the trainees were being quartered by the committee at the institute with N20,000 monthly stipend per trainee, as well as the provision of sports wears and materials for writing. She therefore listed some of the graduands who are presently doing well in their various skills among whom were Daniel Ekezer, who graduated from welding and pipe fitting, Mgboawaji Owor cinematography and Pomptera Williams of arts department.
