Rivers Plans Swimming Academy

Following the impressive performances of Rivers athletes in the swimming event, at the on-going 17th National Sports Festival tagged “Garden City Games 2011” the Rivers State Swimming Association said they would establish a swimming academy this year.

Chief Chris Biriowel, the Chairman of the State Swimming Association revealed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide Sports shortly after the state won three gold medals yesterday in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the establishment is to ensure that the state groom and discover hidden talents in the area of swimming and to produce the best swimmers for the country.

According to him, the brain behind their success is that the athletes were trained by our national champions in swimming, so they are technically, tactically and physically sound.

“Before now, I have been telling people that swimming will give the state the highest medals, because they are well prepared and determined to make the state proud” Chief Biriowell said.

He further stated that the association’s new chairman also contributed immensely to the success of the swimming because strategy and tactics changed besides, a lot of home work was done.
