Rivers Contingent Continues Impressive Form
Rivers State athletes on the ongoing 17th National Sprots Festival, yesterday continued their impressive showing in the day-two of competitions.
The state hauled medals in the summing pools in the opening day of the swimming event and cycling to add to the four won on Wednesday while the male and female Volleyball teams also had a bright start.
Dotimi Gagbe and Ifang nyong won gold medals in swimming’s 100 metres free style, women, with atime of 1.04.43 and men’s 100m Breaststroke at 1.09.43, respectively.
In the Volleyball event, Rivers female team over came their Lagos counterparts in three sets to berth in the quarter final stage, while their male counterparts are one game away from the last eight stage, after winning tier first preliminary match.
Edward Osim dominated the Cycling 500 metres even to secure the gold medal for Rivers while Goodnews Edet won silver as both cyclists finished in first and second positions.
Also, Tombrapa Grikpa and Rita Oveh clinched silver medals for the state in the women event.
