Poor Performance: Group Canvasses Sack Of Council Chairmen

Concerned by the poor performance of some council chairmen in Rivers State, the Movement for Rural Development and Youths Empowerment (MRDYE), called on the government to make bold its earlier threat to sack any local government chairman who peformed below expectation.

The Group Secretary General, Comrade Belief Esuku, yesterday while inspecting some abandoned projects in Khana Local Government Area of the State, said, there  need to monitor council chairmen every quarterly to ensure even developments at the rural areas.

Comrade Esuku assured the State government of the groups’ effort to assist in evaluation and re-appraisal of the performance made by each local government council chairman every quarter, and appealed to the government to set up rural project monitoring team to measure the performance of the council chairmen.

On aims and objectives of the group, Comrade Esuku said the group was formed to act as a mouth-piece for the rural people to monitor the activities of some local government chairmen in the development of rural areas.

He said the group was also established to ensure that local government authorities followed the blueprint of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in terms of development and youth empowerment.

According to him, if all the local government councils perform well in providing development projects, the living condition of the rural people would have improved and at the same time empower the teaming jobless youths at the rural area.

Comrade Esuku  appealed to the State government to assist the group with the necessary facilities that would make their task  easier for the development of our rural areas.
