Non-FG Presence In S’South Worries Reps Member
Worried about the lack of Federal presence in the various states of the South-South, members of the 7th House of Representatives from the zone have vowed to confront the government to extend its development plans to the area.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Mr Ken Chikere representing Port Harcourt I federal constituency said the non-existence of federal projects in Rivers State and the South-South in general” is disturbing us the representatives of the zone.”
According to him “ There’s no federal presence in our area-We of the Rivers State and the South-South in general are aware that federal presence is not felt in our states and the federal government is being invited to look into the areas that need attention. Wherever we identify that there is no federal presence, we will attack it at the House!!
Chikere, former Attoreney-General and Commissioner of justice in Rivers State said “we are not shy to present our case and very soon, we will make our feelings known through the House,” adding that the issues of youth empowerment, community development, power, education and roads are critical in the agenda.
The lawmaker believed that the House would focus attention on how the country could achieve true federalism and avert terrorism and corruption, which he said, were challenging the Nigerian State.
He stressed the need for Nigerian leaders to have the political will to develop the various parts of the country, noting that members of the House of Representatives have perceived a negative desire to move the country forward by some Nigerians.
“There should be a conscious desire to change our perception in order to bring development to our people and this is what we in the House are doing,” Chikere noted.
The lawmaker, who observed that the 7th House of Representatives was more vibrant than the 6th, explained that the agenda set for the lawmakers was a framework on which positive achievements would be recorded for governance at all levels, saying that the agenda if adequately implemented would go a long way in transforming the nation.
