NDE Train 60 Rivers Youths On Rural Agric

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Rivers State has engaged about 60 Rivers Youths for training in rural agricultural development schemes.

The Coordinator of NDE in the State, Alabo Napoleon Amachree disclosed this while flagging off the training programme at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Centre Rumuodomanya, headquarters of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

He urged the trainees to make good use of the  opportunities provided by the scheme which he explained was on the Rural Employment Promotion (REP) structured to cover four areas of modern agricultural production, processing, marketing, presentation and other agro-related services.

According to him the scheme was aimed at imparting comprehensive training skills to various cadres of unemployed persons with respect to boosting their interest in agric-sector of the economy.

He used the opportunity to advocate for better funding of the scheme as to enable proper resettlement of the beneficiaries at the end of their training, while also appealing to states and local governments as well as other stakeholders to partner with NDE to expand the concept of the training programme.

The Head of Rural Employment Promotion (REP) Department, Mr. A. U. Udo advised the participants to live up to their billings by regularly attending the programme.

Mr. Udo opined that during the training participants would enjoy both theoretical and field attachment to established farms within the state.

The progrmme further adopts integrated and practical farming demonstrations and approach in capacity building for community empowerment and rural development, and is slated  to last for four months with the aim of accelerating the implementation of agricultural development policies of the federal government and job creation needs of the state.
