NCC Takes Sim Registration To Rural Areas
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has called on the various telecom services providers to extend the ongoing sim card registration exercise to the rural areas.
Besides, the agency has declared that adults and minors can be registered in proxy, as far as the details of the user is provided for security reasons.
The disclosure was made by Mr. Okochukwu Itanyi at the Telecom Consumer Parliament organized by the body in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Mr. Itanyi decried the absence of sim registration in the rural areas, noting that the situation has cut-off the rural populace, who are also major users of the network.
He stated that though the exercise would finally end in September this year, there was need to cover all nooks and crannies of the country to ensure adequate coverage and security of users.
Aside helping to check crime and fraud, he submitted that sim card registration would provide a conducive environment for network providers to operate, since it would compel them to improve on their services.
Meanwhile, some telecom users in Rivers State have flayed the poor network service, frequent sim card blockage and increasing fraud in GSM usage in the country.
Okere ThankGod, an MTN customer lamented that he had suffered several fraud by strange callers who use the name of the company to dupe network user.
The same view was expressed by Enyinna Chinyere who lamented the increasing spate of kidnapping and therefore called on the companies to be proactive.
