Match Free Day To Be Observed For Opening Ceremony
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA), has said that the match free day in the football competition had to be brought forward because of the opening ceremony of the sports festival.
The Football Coordinator of the festival, Emmanuel Adesanya, told correspondent yesterday in Port Harcourt that the rest day was originally slated for July 2.
He said that the elaborate nature of the opening ceremony which ought to have been observed on day one of the festival brought about the adjustment of match schedules.
“Under normal circumstances, the opening ceremony is usually observed from day one after which the opening football match was played.
“But because of the gadgets that have been put in place for the opening ceremony, the opening match could not hold at the Liberation Stadium.
“Because of this arrangement, the matches that were originally scheduled for the opening ceremony day, had to be brought forward to make room for the unusual situation,” he said.
Adesanya told correspondents that the final football match may likely hold at the Sharks FC Stadium to also make way for the closing ceremony.
