LG Boss Vows To Fight Crime
The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Hon. Welendu Amadi has promised to end incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.
Hon. Amadi, who made the promise last Wednesday during Town Hall meeting at Omerelu in Ikwerre Local Government Area, said his resolve to fight crime was informed by the appeal for security contained in an address delivered by the Community Development Committee Chairman, Chief Christain Okpara.
Welendu, said that the current security challenge facing Omerelu was master minded by sons of the community, saying that the council is ready to stop the trend .
He frowned at both elders and community leaders who provide cover for criminals and warned them not to hesitate to report known criminals in their area.
He said that the council will publish the name of any suspected criminal, especially those that are declared wanted by security operatives.
“You must give chance for people to grow. We are sounding a note of warning now, we are not against any person but out to better our land”, he said.
The chairman charged landlords to screen those they take as tenants in order to stem the spate of criminality in the area.
He regretted that some activities of kidnapping, which he said, was rife in the coastal region have now extended to the upland, stressing that urgent steps must be taken in order to address the situation.
In his speech, a former Commissioner of Lands and Survey, Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi, assured the council boss of the community’s readiness to curb criminality in the area.
Ezekiel-Amadi, who was displeased over the kidnap of the mother of Dr Sabinus Elechi, said that it was an ugly development that called for sober reflection.
Earlier, he had lauded the council boss for his bold step in the administration of the council and thanked the people for their support to the Peoples Democratic Party and its leadership.
