Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa, says the large influx of foreigners into the country during the April elections caused the post-election violence.

The governor said this on Tuesday in Dutse when he received members of the Presidential Committee on Post-Election Violence.

He said that the foreigners who sneaked into the country during the period were among those who perpetrated violent acts in some parts of the country.

The governor, who spoke through the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Mustapha Aminu, also advised the Federal Government to create definite roles for traditional rulers in efforts to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

Lamido stressed that such approach would be useful in dousing tension across the country.

He, however, noted that unemployment and the absence of good governance were some of the factors which contributed to the violence that trailed the April elections.

The leader of the team, Alhaji Mustapha Wali, said that they were in the state to ascertain the root causes of the crisis and assess the extent of damage.

He gave the assurance that the committee would strive to find lasting solutions to the crisis, while looking into how to forestall a recurrence of such crisis in the country.

Our correspondent reports that the post-election violence affected areas such as Hadejia, Ringim and Malammadori in the state.
