The secretary of Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KFN) has blamed lack  of funds for the inability of the body to execute its programme.

Olabisi Odubote told newsmen that most of the federation’s programmes were dependent on funds which were not available.

“We have so many events lined up for our athletes but due to inadequate funds the federation is finding it difficult to  engage the athletes.

“This has its dire consequences as it makes the athletes less busy and lazy.”  She appealed to corporate bodies to sponsor some of the programmes to keep the athletes busy.

Odubote said that the federation was working hard to bring Ernesto Hoost, a four-time World K1 champion, to Nigeria to conduct  a technical seminar for coaches and players in July.

She expressed regret that kickboxing, in which Nigeria won medals at the 9th All Africa Games in Algiers, would not be featuring  in the 10th edition in Maputo in September.

“The federation is not happy that we would not be participating in the All Africa Games,” she said, adding that

since kickboxing would not feature in the Maputo Games, the federation planned to keep the athletes occupied  by organising the Battle of Naija Part I and II (World Title Fights) competition.
