India Invests $56m In Nigeria
India’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Mahesh Sachdev, says Nigeria is India’s second largest trade partner, with $56 million investment in Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Tony Onyekwere, Chief Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and made available to newsmen yesterday in Abuja following Sachdev’s visit to Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement, India’s contribution to Nigeria has generated employment in the area of banking, shipping, agriculture and transportation.
Recalling India’s contributions to Nigeria on scholarship and training opportunities, Sachdev stated that Nigeria was entitled to eight fellowship scholarships in biotechnology and another 130 in skills acquisition programmes.
In her response, Onwuliri thanked the Indian envoy for the opportunity in terms of exchange programmes, noting that such programmes had helped in strengthening peace among countries.
While complementing India’s co-operation in the areas of trade, investment, education and healthcare delivery, the minister called for more collaboration in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
She pledged strengthened and sustained political and economic relations with India.
The minister and the envoy also exchanged documents of both countries, according to the statement.
