Imo 10,000 Jobs: Only 2,035 Are Genuine –Committee
The Imo government 10,000 jobs verification committee has submitted its report to government.
Our correspondent reports that the committee found out that only 2,035 of the 10,000 jobs said to be given to youths were genuine.
The lkedi Ohakim-1ed administration in its last week in office, announced the job offer, which Governor Rochas Okorocha suspended in June and set up the verification committee in that regard.
Presenting the report to the Secretary to the Government of lmo (SSl), Prof. Anthony Anwuka, the committee’s Chairman, Mr Charles Onuoha, said that only 8,211 beneficiaries of the said employment scheme showed up for verification.
Onuoha said that the verification which covered the period between Oct. 2010 and April 2011, was thorough and devoid of any victimisation.
The chairman said some of the offers were “politically-motivated” because some public officers involved in the exercise compromised their positions.
According to him, some of those said to have been given the appointment scored less than 40 per cent in the aptitude tests conducted for the job while others did not take the examination at all.
He added that other flaws that characterised the job offers were indiscriminate offer of appointment letters, bribery, and certificate/documentation discrepancies.
Receiving the report, Anwuka commended the committee for carrying out the exercise with high sense of responsibility, promising that government would study it and act accordingly.
According to him, the verification was not meant to be a witch-hunt, but to put the record straight for posterity.
Anwka gave an assurance that the 2,035 persons cleared, of security of their jobs, and advised those not cleared to take advantage of the youth empowerment programme initiated by the present administration.
He directed all those believed to have been offered appointments under the much-advertised 10,000 job offers, to check at their local government headquarters, to find out whether theirs were genuine or not.
