IJF Referee Demands Score Board, Video Camera

An International Judo Federation’s (IJF) referee, Alexander Dezouza, has tasked the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF),on the need to modernise the sport through electronic score-board and video camera.

Dezouza in an interview with correspondents yesterday in Port Harcourt said the equipment would make it difficult for cheating in Judo events.

He said that the equipment would also make Nigeria to be internationally recognized and will empower judokas to take part in international competitions.

“As you can see, we are still using manual recorder which are prone to mistakes, we need to acquire electronic score-board and enough video camera to make cheating difficult.

“The electronic board will records points, and names of participating states while the video will get accurate clips’ and make Nigeria internationally recognised,’’ he said.

Dezouza who said he would be officiating at the World Judo Championships scheduled for August in France said Nigeria judokas had what it takes to showcase their potentials in international competition.

He also said that Nigerian judo referees who are  officiating  at the ongoing  17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt were  vast in the international rules and regulations of the sport.

He however said that the NJF in conjunction with the Rivers State Government organized series of coaching clinics before the festival for proper judgment in judo competitions.
