A police orderly attached to Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State allegedly shot dead his colleague yesterday morning, witnesses told our correspondent in Umuahia.

The incident took place about 4.30 a.m. at the residence of the deceased, whose name was simply given as Clement.

The suspect allegedly went to the residence of the deceased when an argument ensued, which led to the shooting of the deceased.

Our correspondent  learnt that after killing his victim, the suspect started shooting sporadically into the air and attracted the attention of other security personnel at the Government House, Umuahia.

Our correspondent  further learnt that a military man shot the suspect in order to disarm him.

Confirming the incident, Mr Geoffery Ogbonna, Abia Police Command Public Relations Officer, said that the report had reached his office but the details of the incident had yet to be known.

Head Accident/ Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Dr Uche Aguocha,  said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.

“We received two police officers at the early hours of today, one was shot at the head while the other received multiple gunshots at the chest and back,” he said.

Aguocha said that with the type of injury the victim sustained in the head “no one would expect him to survive because he was shot at a close range.”

He, however, said the wounded man was undergoing emergency operation.
