German-Based Soccer Star Tasks FG On Football Dev
Mr Chinedu Abia, a German–based Nigerian footballer has advised the Federal Government to invest more in the development of football to make it an attractive profession for the youth.
Abia, who plays for Weil am Rhein Club, gave the advice in an interview with Tidesports source in Freiburg.
Abia, who played for Nigeria Social Insurance Football Club in Abuja, said adequate attention to football would encourage more youths to embrace it as a profession.
He said football had the potential of creating employment for talented youths in the country.
“Nigeria has a lot of football talents and if well developed it will reduce unemployment and the number of Nigerians playing in the foreign clubs especially in Europe.
“You see an average talented Nigeria footballer wants to play in Europe because this is the best place you can show your talents and they will appreciate you,’’ he said.
In addition, he said European clubs pay their players very well compared with Nigerian counterparts.
“They invest a lot of money in development of football here and right from the junior team, they will start coaching them very well. They provide them with a separate field and all they need to excel,’’ he said.
According to him, football is well organised in Europe adding that they have a lot of training facilities that will help a player give his best.
He appealed to the federal government to improve on the package of footballers and provide training facilities to harness the sporting potentials of the players.
