FRSC Cautions Motorists Against Recklessness
Motorists in Nigeria, especially commercial vehicle drivers have been advised to always obey traffic rules and regulations in order to avert avoidable road accidents on the nation’s highways.
The Enugu State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Hygenus Fuomsuk , who made the call Monday in a chat with our correspondent in Enugu also urged passengers not to persuade commercial vehicle drivers to engage on over speeding.
This, he said, could be counter productive as over speeding could lead to avoidable serious road accidents capable of claiming the lives of many passengers, adding, “we need to be very careful while on steering”.
He, advised passengers to ensure they leave their homes early in order to get to their destinations on time.
On the reported cases of incessant harassment of drivers and indiscriminate seizure of their Drivers’ Licenses by men of the FRSC, Mr Fuomsuk further said: “Our men don’t seize drivers licenses like that. “You know many drivers carry fake vehicle particulars. When we discover such documents, we will have no option than to seize them. Our men are not supposed to harass or intimidate motorists in any form or shape”, he explained.
The FRSC Sector Commander also used the forum to advise the general public to always report cases of intimidation or harassment by men of the Commission to the appropriate authorities for necessary disciplinary action, adding that the body does not condone any form of indiscipline.
According to him, those already found wanting in the discharge of their duties have either been disciplined or dismissed from service to serve as deterrent to others, pointing out that “there is no sacred cow as far as the FRSC is concerned”.
Commenting on the issuance of drivers licenses, Mr Fuomsuk made it clear that the era of obtaining driving license by proxy is over, as the person seeking to obtain license must be physically present to enable the issuing authorities take the ten finger prints and other particulars before license is issued.
Continuing, the Enugu State FRSC Sector Commander said: “Any license issued to you by proxy is fake, and you should not accept it”, he further added.
