The former Commissioner for Sports, Edo State, Mr Brown Ebewele  has blamed the not too good outings of Edo State in the on-going 17th National Sports Festival on the lack of interest shown on the game by the state government.

Edo State is currently occupying the 12th position on the medal table with one gold, three silver and two bronze.

However, the former Commissioner for Sports who has also served the state as the Director of Sports told Tidesports in an exclusive interview that the Adams Oshiomhole led government has not shown much interest in the games stressing that the athletes are only doing what they can in the circumstances that they find themselves.

He said that Rivers and Delta states are doing well, because their governments are desperate to ensure that their athletes do well.

“As far as I am concerned, Edo athletes have done so well, considering the fact that they were not well prepared.

“They camped for only ten days, their coming here was chaotic and you remember before they came here, they had to stand for more than six hours waiting for the Governor to address them before they left and those affected their performance “he said.

According to him, some states are doing well because of their governments support, stressing that a state cannot do well if her government is not supportive.

“If a government is not supportive, there is noting that you can do, you can’t eat well, you can’t transport yourself, so government is the key” he said.
