Dr Moshood Fashola, Amir, Ahmadiya Muslim Congregation, yesterday  in Lagos described the request by the Boko Haram sect for the implementation of Sharia in some states as “undemocratic’’.

Fashola said that such a demand could not be imposed on the people, except it has passed through the State Houses of Assembly for it to be widely accepted.

He told newsmen  that only then would there be opportunity for its monitoring and proper implementation.

“Somebody can not just wake up and decide to impose his or her own views on the people; it is very wrong,’’ he said.

He said that the right of every individual to religion, belief and worship was sacrosanct and no one has the right to compel others to change their views.

Fashola who is also a lecturer at the University of Lagos, described Nigeria as multi-religious and with definite fundamental rights as contained in the county’s constitution.

According to him, the call for the eradication of western education by Boko Haram can not stand the test of time.

“For goodness sake, anyone who does not believe in western education has the right to evolve his or her own school,’’ he said.
