Dolphins To Get New Bus Soon …As Players Threaten Boycott
Nigeria’s Premier League leader, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt is set to get a new bus from the state government, according to the Technical Adviser of the club, Stanley Eguma.
This follows a threat by the players of the club to boycott their remaining matches this season if their troublesome vehicle was not changed.
Reacting to the threat, Eguma admitted that the team did not have a functional team bus capable of sustained distant journeys as is the case in the league, and said that they have been trying to manage the one available.
According to him, most times the players had been stranded due to one breakdown or the other on the road, adding that a journey of 12 hours usually takes them about 48 hours
It is true that we do not have a very good bus, the one we have usually breaks down in the middle of journey”, Eguma said.
He however, disclosed that government promised to provide the club with a new bus very soon.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the players to exercise more patience, as government would soon address the situation.
The players had threatened to boycott the remaining league matches if a new vehicle was not provided for the team for its journeys, especially away matches.
The players told Tidesports that the team lacked a functional vehicle to travel long distances, saying that often times, the bus they currently use broke down and got abandoned on the road.
“We are tired of risking our lives, we cannot be travelling with a bus that always exposes us to danger, especially, when it breaks down in the night”, said one of the players who did not want his name published.
