Delta Shows Supremacy In Wrestling
Delta team has shown supremacy over other states at the men’s wrestling bouts with four gold and a bronze medals at the ongoing 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.
Team Delta topped the medals table in 55kg, 66kg, 74kg and 96kg also the bronze in 120kg.
Rivers placed second with a gold, a silver and a bronze in 84kg, 120kg and 66kg respectively while Ondo registered third with a gold and two bronze in 60kg, 66kg and 74kg respectively.
Joe Ositi, Assistant Coach, Delta State Wrestling Association told reporters yesterday at the Civic Centre, venue of the festival that he was impressed with the performance of his team.
He said he promised his state just three gold medals but now that they had four.
Ositi said he was optimistic the girls would repeat same feat in their contest to confirm their supremacy over other states in the game.
He said his team banked on hard work and perseverance, adding that the state should empower the athletes with employment for the sustenance of such record in the next festival.
“I am so happy today for the men’s brilliant performance, I hope the girls will win too but I urge the state government to give them employment for them to do more,“ the coach said.
