Deborah Pam of Plateau State has won the 10,000 metres female race just within twenty four hours of coming second place in the 5000 metres race in the on going 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.

Deborah who left KADA 2009 festival without celebrating a medal of any kind said that she simply went back to the drawing board and intensified her training and made sure she returned to Port Harcourt much more prepared than she was at the KADA games.

The smallish and dark sprinter proudly noted that she did it better now than before.

“This time, I did it better”, she announced. “I was in Kaduna in 2009 but I did not win anything. I went home and intensified my training. That time, I was not training as much as I did. I feel very great having won this gold medal”.

One of her coaches, Naomi Ngluwa Saleh also said that they ensured an adequate training programme for the team.

“We use to give them work twice in a week, Monday and Friday. I go on the track morning and evening for speed work and endurance training from January till this season to make them to have the endurance to finish the competition and to finish well too.

“Today she has won gold and silver in 10,000m and 5,000m and am so happy that our labours paid off, am really impressed.

“I still have more athletes that will be running tomorrow [today] in 1500 metres male and female and also in the marathon race and am still very expectant of more medals”, said the coach proudly.
