Daniel Harps On Power Of Sports In Nigeria

The immediate past governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has described sports as a unifying factor due to its influence on the people during every sporting activity, especially competitions.

According to him, sports have special pulling force and spirit that unite and excite the people.

Daniel, stated this while fielding questions from sports journalists shortly after he was accredited to witness the formal opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt on Sunday.

According to him, there is no instrument that unites Nigerians better than sports.

“Well, I guess that sports is something that unifies everybody in the world, most expecially Nigerians.

I therefore think that it is appropriate for the National Sports Festival to come every two years, it is actually a very good time,” Daniel said.

The former governor, explained that he attached importance to the festival, particularly, the on-going one, that was why we came to Port Harcourt to encourage athletes to be at there best.

He expressed joy over the active participation of our youths in sporting activities.

“I am grateful that our people are embracing sports, especially the younger ones.”

Governor Daniel, used the forum to advise youths in the country, particularly those involved in sports to take advantage of the NSF, because it is an event that can throw them into limelight.

“I urged the youths to take advantage of NSF to show case their talents for international scouts to pick them, so that it will enable them to make Nigeria proud” he said.
