A consultant with International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Mr Ramesh Jaura has advised governments in Nigeria to focus on sustainable development projects to meet the MDGs by 2015.

Jaura, a communication consultant to IFAD gave the advice in an interview with  newsmen last Monday in Berlin.

According to him, short term sustainable development projects in four sectors of agriculture, health, education and environment will fast track achieving the targets.

“The four sectors are vital to meeting the MDGs and if you focus on projects around those areas, it will help to bring about sustainability especially in the oil sector.

“In the area of environment, the problem will just be the question of what type of programme to rescue the environment from oil exploration”, he said.

The consultant, however, called on media to be more active in their watchdog role to the society.

“They should be very active, to create awareness among parlimentarians and the NGOs as well as the general public.
