Commissioner Charges LG Chairmen On Security
The Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government, Mr Okey Ani has urged all the 17 Council Chairmen in the area to be actively involved in the efforts to provide security for the people.
He advised them to take matters relating to the provision of security in the council areas more seriously in the face of security threats around the country.
In an interview with newsmen in Enugu, Ani urged the council chairmen to liaise with traditional rulers in providing security in their communities. He said traditional rulers were more visible in the villages and better placed to detect suspicious movements within their respective communities.
Ani urged the chairmen to install security gadgets at council gates for screening of persons visiting their council areas.
He said government would enlist the services of intelligence units for adequate surveillance and maintenance of security coverage of their areas.
The comissioner also urged religious leaders to be involved in security matters and install security gargets in their premises to prevent security breaches.
“We should think ahead of criminals, so that their evil plans will not affect us.”
