Following the standard of darts at the on-going 17th National Sports Festival, Chief Coach of darts in Ondo State, Olu-femi Fabode has said that the game is fast growing in the country.

He made the remark yesterday during one of the matches at the Port Harcourt Club venue,

According to him, the  sport which was introduced barely six years ago is now growing rapidly in the nation, saying that, some states have been forging ahead despite the odds.

“Ondo State has been able to have an academy where young players are groomed, they are now doing well, unlike some other states that came with older players who have been so long  in the game. Just like in football, where you have tired legs, we also have tired hands in darts,” he noted.

He maintained that the competition was okay, adding that more younger players should be encouraged to come into darts and disclosed the readiness of Ondo to recruit younger talents and groom replacement for aging players.

“State coaches need to go to the grassroots not the secondary school level, pick darts players and develop them in the game, he urged.

He noted that the younger ones now phasing out the older ones believing that it was time for the older ones to leave the stage for the up coming ones.

Speaking on the fate of Ondo State on the game, Fabode, said that the game has been good so far as Team Ondo has been able to pick one bronze medal.
