Civil Service Week To Stress Better Life For All

The need to create better life for all through good leadership and public administration will be the focus of the 2011 Civil Service Week celebrations.

A statement signed by Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the Rivers State Civil Service Week 2011, Dr George Nwolu, who is also Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said the Civil Service is continually committed to service to the people. According to the statement, the committee has planned a total of six lectures for the week, all aimed at developing the understanding of the civil servant for his personal good and ultimate service to the people.

“The theme lecture:” Transformative Leadership in Public Administration and Governance: Creating a better life for all “would be given by Prof N.E.S. Lale, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt.” It stated.   The two other lectures for the first day are Pubic Private Partnership to be addressed by Lady Anita Laz Nwokeafo, Executive Director of PPP in Rivers State; while Mr G.A. Afolanyan of ASCON, Badagry, Lagos, will take the lecture on Public Service Reforms: Issues and Perspectives.

On the second day, the statement said Dr C.I. Tobin-West of the UPTH, Choba, will address the topic  Managing Personal Health with emphasis on blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and stress, while Elder Mike Whetode of ASCON South-South zonal office will address the topic, Ethical Reorientation for acceptable work conduct: A panacea for developing the Public Service.

Finally, activities at the main bowl of the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre would come to a close with the lecture topic, Improved Service Delivery in Public Service: A Public Perspective to be handled by Mr Karibi George, Chairman, NIPR, Rivers Council.
