Chevron Tasks Kula RDC On GMoU Implementation
The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Engr Femi Odumabo has implored the Kula Regional Development Committee (RDC) to adhere to the principles of Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) in order to ensure more success in the years ahead.
Engr Odumabo gave the change at the 1st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kula Regional Development Committee in Port Harcourt recently.
He said the 1st AGM of the Kula RDC signalled a significant breakthrough from the lull in the past and called on the RDC to sustain its current progress in the implementation of the GMoU.
He expressed satisfaction that the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture was achieving the vision of establishing partnership with various stakeholders through the GMoU to address development challenges in the areas of it operation.
Odumabo who was represented by the GMoU coordinator of Chevron, T. Akagbosu thanked the Rivers State Governemnt, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other partners for their commitment towards ensuring the smooth implementation of the GMoU process.
In his remark, Chariman of Kula RDC, Hon. Stanley Benibo who commended Chevron for the unflinching commitment to the success of the GMoU process however, regretted that internal conflict stunted the accompliment of the GMoU objectives in Kula, but pledged that RDC will work hard to attain set goals.
He identified security of lives and property, construction of internal roads, health, human capital development as well as provision of portable water as priorities of the RDC.
He further called on all stakeholders of the GMoU process to join hands with Chevron to yield desired impact in the benefiting communities.
In his own response, the representative of the Rivers State government, Chief Chukwu Enyinda commended Chevron for its deep sense of commitment to the success of the GMoU process.
He also commended the people of Kula for embracing peace, and pledged the support and collaboration of Rivers State Government to the development of the community.
Enyinda, a director in the Rivers State Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Development urged Kula community to sustain the peace process as that was the only panacea to the development of the community.
Also speaking at the event, chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Theodore Gergewill charged the RDC to be transparent and prudent in the management of available resources to fast-track development in the area.
The Akulga has also promised to provide a conducive environment for the operations of Chevron in the area.
Earlier, the Amanyanabo of Kula, King Kroma Eleki Sara XIV, had expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for supporting the peaceful co-existence and development of Kula.
The Kula monarch said the peace achieved in Kula will be sustained to ensure unfettered development in the oil-rich community.
