Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Warri, Delta, took to the streets protesting the activities of the members of Boko Haram in parts of the country.

They alleged that such activities were against Christians and youth corps members from the southern parts of the country.

The protest, led by the Delta State Chairman of CAN, Pastor God-dowell Avwomakpa, comprised of men, women and clergymen representing the various churches in the state.

Presenting their grounds of protest to the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, at the Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, Avwomakpa warned that Christians would no longer tolerate the menace of the sect.

Pastor Gabriel Yomere received the protesters on behalf of Oritsejafor, who was not available.

Avwomakpa said Christians had been enduring the killings of their members, including the clergy, by members of the sect.

The CAN chairman condemned the call for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to members of the sect as granted to the militants in the Niger Delta.

“Amnesty can only be given to people who are fighting a very important cause,’’ he said, adding that the sect only wanted to foist its belief on Nigerians.

He also called on the Federal Government to be vigilant over the setting up of Islamic banks in the country, alleging that it could be a trick to Islamise the nation.

Some of the placards read: Delta CAN says No to Islamisation of Nigeria; Sanusi, who are you working for; Nigeria is a circular state, we will survive without Islamic bank.

Others also read: Delta CAN say no to NYSC posting to the north and No to monopoly of religion in Nigeria.

Receiving the protesters on behalf of the CAN president, Yomere apologised for his and said that he would convey the message to him.
